> Strange rattle from engine compartment
Posted by Randomhero - 02-7-10 10:40 - 1 comments
In the last month or so there has been a odd rattle in the engine compartment. I can hear it in the the car and it is quite loud. The rattle sounds like its coming from the floor of the passanger seat. It only occurs when i accelerate, not during idle or cruise. Also there is no rattle while i turn right. I could post a youtube video of the rattle if that could help diagnose the problem.

My friend said is was my lower right ball joint, but idk. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Hey all I was thinking about doing an airride setup in my car but after all the thinking I decided to not go with that and just
put a 2inch drop on it, now I'm thinking about going with the dropzone lowering spring but I was wondering if I should put
a coilover setup in the car or just go with a set of new shocks instead. I dont have the car geared up to go fast more of a cruiser
guy myself, also was wondering if I should take the car in for an alignment after I install everything, any help would be appreciated.
The car is a 1996 chrysler cirrus

> $500 '96 Breeze
Posted by TWX - 02-4-10 16:03 - 7 comments
I know, asking if I should buy another cloud car here is like asking an addict's advice on more heroin, but here'goes...

There's a white '96 Breeze with a 2.4L I4/4sp auto for sale for $500 somewhat near me. The body looks pretty good in the 300x220 pictures. Apparently it's not running, and the ad says it cranks but doesn't fire. I spoke the the person listing it, and he apparently used to work for one of the local dealerships in service as a mechanic, and he thinks it's just the timing belt. The seller is a friend of his and can't afford to fix it. The seller told him that he was idling at a light, and when he went to pull away the engine stopped running and wouldn't restart. The lister said the interior is kind of dirty but not ripped, and the only significant body blemish is the presence of the goo from where the breeze's side decals were peeled off, which promptly collected dirt. So, best case, tow it home, change the timing belt, clean the goo off with goo-gone or mineral spirits or the like.

I've got four possibilities for what to do with it if I bought it. First, parts car for the '97 Stratus. This assumes I don't fix it. Downside is that my wife would probably murder me in my sleep. Second, fix it and send it to where her parents live. She visits them several times a year and since they don't drive anymore, she rents a car. Granted, getting it there wouldn't be all that much fun, and dealing with out-of-state registration would be even more entertaining, but for less than $1000 (if it's driven back there) plus insurance it would probably pay for itself fairly quickly. Third option, buy it, fix it, and sell it. I've got three friends that all could make use of it. One friend just lost the engine in his Taurus. Another could use it for commuting, and a third doesn't have a car or a license but might be coming around to the idea that he needs to drive to further his career prospects. Fourth, get it ready for my wife to be able to use it if we have kids, depending on its odometer reading. Her car currently is an '01 Integra hatchback, and wouldn't be terribly practical for car seats and the like.

Any thoughts on things to watch out for? I figure that bringing my OBD-II code reader, a compression tester and necessary tools to use it, some shop rags, my '97 FSM, a floor jack, and a tow dolly behind my pickup are requisite for figuring more out and buying it if I want it. What else should I consider or look for?

> Looking for some information for 05 dodge stratus sxt sedan.
Posted by ourheartsconviction - 01-30-10 20:32 - 2 comments
I just recently came to find this website and haven't really explored the depths of the internet, but I am looking for some information from other owners who maybe have dealt with these automobiles. If this is not the correct place to ask, could you let me know.

I have a 2005 Dodge Stratus SXT Sedan. 2.4L 4 Cyl. 16 valve DOHC. New sparkplugs, new air filter, new exhaust including resonator and tip. 67,500 miles. Owned since 46,000 miles and has had all regular maintenance.

I was having acceleration issues, high rpm's to get up to speed in the 0-30 range, then again from 50-65. My first idea was to remove the air filter, replace it, also spraying some Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner on the sensor, it was already pretty clean but I spray some on it anyway. I also sprayed some throttle/butterfly valve cleaner and lubricant into the throttle body. This did improve my acceleration issue quite a bit, but it still seems to have a problem getting up to highway speed. I question whether or not I have an exhaust issue or something else that I am not thinking of.

I had a small run-in with the ice/curb of a street and removed a 4 inch chunk of my rim. I am currently running on a steel wheel from a local shop and a used tire. I am looking for someone who may have removed a rim when getting new ones who may be looking to sell me one. That, or could someone point me in a good direction as to how to locate one of these rims? In fact, as I am writing this, I found one for $100 shipped to my front door. This may be the route I go. If someone wants to get rid of one for cheaper, this is the rim that I am looking for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DODGE-STRAT...ee#ht_500wt_690

Another thing that I would like to find is a dealer who sells 2g brake calipers and rotors. I am not familiar with braking systems, but what I wanted to do is add increased braking power in the form of new calipers, rotors, and brake pads. This has been the area that has me most concerned as I can not give any history of the braking work done on my automobile as it wasn't provided me in the sale. It's mediocre braking in my opinion. Since I don't know a lot about the braking system, would I only need to buy 2 rotors, 2 sets of pads, and two calipers? Am I missing something else that is required or should be required when adding these components?

I am also looking to replace the shocks in my car, mine creak bad when it's cold and I have a lot of dips and bumps in my community. I don't know much about this system either, but any advice there would be great.

The last issue I have is a cruise control problem. I've only had it happen intermittently but it has become an annoyance when it happens. I will set my cruise control, brake, then get back up to speed and notice that I can't set my cruise control anymore. The only thing that resets this is restarting the automobile.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Thinking about leting my car go for $35 000. Tons of spare parts will go with it. Can put it on payment plan , but you'll get the car only when paid in full. No "test drives" and other monkey business. Car always in garage. I was puting on it like 5 ml each weekend . So by now it should be around 1000 ml on it max.
Just want to do something else. Another chalenge. Something completely crazy , from the scratch , no make related , my own vision of the car.

Selling the EX. Looking for a new ride in the $10-$15k range. Looking for modest power and respectable MPG (20 or more city would be nice).

Would like a sporty ride, something with some sort of aftermarket for when the bug gets me. Would prefer American, followed by euro, followed by Asian.

Suggestions/opinions/recommendations?
